IMPLANTS & RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY

A dental implant is a titanium screw that is placed into the bone, and acts as an artificial root for a false tooth. Because titanium is a biocompatible metal, over time it integrates with your bone and becomes part of your body. If you have missing teeth, or a missing tooth, this can be a great way to restore your bite, and your smile, for many years.

What can I expect?

Dental implants require careful planning, assessment, and healing time. We will check to make sure that the condition of your jaw bone can support a dental implant, to optimize the prognosis of this procedure. Implants can be surgically placed comfortably under local anesthetic. Once the titanium root is in place, it is very important to give your bone time to heal and fuse to the new implant. This process, called osseointegration, will take approximately 4-6 months, and will allow your implant to become stable. During this time, a healing cap will be placed on your implant to protect it. We’ll also take impressions of your teeth, so that your implant will be the best fit for you. You should keep your routine hygiene appointments to ensure that your teeth and gums are kept healthy. Finally, once your bone and gums have healed, a new tooth will be fit over your dental implant. With good oral hygiene and routine maintenance, your implant can last for years to come.
